MUSTLORD creates ambient sound-worlds using processed electric and acoustic guitar samples. No synths are used.

‘The Forbidden Waters’ is inspired by the concept of liminal spaces, and is the opening track of the upcoming ‘Liminal Spaces II’ release. I performed the guitar and bass layers at a very low tempo, filling in the space between notes with an audio delay and reverb. The mix becomes gradually denser, with extremely low bass (D#1), guitar chord after-images and field recordings being introduced. The water samples were captured using a highly sophisticated method (hanging a wet towel over a bucket).

Liminal spaces are those uninhabited, transitionary zones which strike us with an indefinable sense of nostalgia and dread. They generate tension, whilst simultaneously causing memories to rise to the surface. That strange pairing of comfort and unease is what I tried to capture with this release.
