Field recording have always been a major part of the Blanket Swimming project. So, I was excited to start composing a track where the field recordings build the structure and composition of the track, rather than acting as only a base layer for something else. I have dabbled in musique concrete with this project (as well as my previous noise project, Junkyard Priest) but I think this is the largest scale piece of "musique concrete" I have attempted.

The process included walking around our neighborhood collecting a variety of natural sounds on my Zoom H1 recorder. Then the process of sorting, chopping, looping, and manipulating these sounds began. I built upon the emerging piece using old bedroom recordings of noisy guitar loops and piano recordings to create the main drone portion of the piece. This was layered with newly recorded loud guitars. The acoustic portion at the beginning stems from an old poem of mine (having to do with the plentiful pines here in Mississippi). The water takes you to the edge of the creek under a canopy of pines in muggy humid MS.

The end of the track offers a quick reprise to the "main theme" of the track. It consists of layers of affected, home recorded banjo, acoustic guitar, and trombone layered over yet more field recordings, primarily of large bells at a playground.
