My piece started as a series of four acoustic guitar improvisation sections, all with differing looping points, played continuously so as to suggest a larger organic, in-the-moment performance more akin to an adept improviser (ie Derek Bailey, Duck Baker or Ian Brighton), then recorded files being layered. Next I ran those resulting sounds through a chain of effects based around a granulizer and ring modular. I enjoy using granulizers with clean instrumental source because their transformative potential is so potent; for example, the way in which little melodic motifs are brought up through the mix, motifs that contrast with the swirl and oscillation of the debris fields they emerge from.
