At the time of these albums' release I was ambivalent to the notion of putting my music on a physical format. It was early 2000s, presmart phone, but a time when more and more people were aquiring mp3 players; physical formats seemed to be on their death bed. Having my music available exlusively online was an intentional choice. It seemed like the most democratic, environmentally friendly way to release music. Wide distribution, no creation of new plastics.

At the time a friend of mine approached me about starting a label. What he wanted was a cassette based label. I fought this, I didn't thnk cassette made sense, I didn't like the way they sounded, and I didn't think people would buy them, and CDRs and digital distribution seemed more relevant. This is before I knew how pervasive the cassette was in avant garde circles. So I decided to be on the helm of the net label side of our label. It never got any further than having a name. Since then I have regretted put these albums on tape.

Fast forward to 2019: I'm now running my own cassette label, and I realize I've been making music as Subversive Inentions for 15 years! I failed to do anything really significant on my 10 year anniversary so I wanted to make something big for this one. Hence this 6 cassette retrospective. To 15 more years!
